The Campaign Committee develops the structure to organize and run a successful campaign by setting a campaign timeline, scheduling events, picking a theme, recruiting volunteers, developing community outreach and providing input and ideas for events, marketing materials and public relations. The Committee meets regularly through the year to plan campaign activities.

The volunteers on the Budget and Agency Relations Committee (BARC) often say that they learn more about the community the Berwick Area United Way serves than they ever thought possible. Committee members visit each partner agency, prepare written reports on the visits, review the funding applications, participate in agency presentations and make the final decisions on the funding allocations. The committee meets the second Monday of the month in June, September, October, November and December to review agency materials. In January, the agencies make presentations on their funding applications. The Committee then makes funding decisions in February for Board approval in February and announcement in March. Anyone interested in learning more about the Berwick area, what United Way does and the agencies and programs supported by donor dollars will find this work interesting and educational.

By continually reviewing research materials about Columbia County and the Berwick area, this Committee identifies unmet needs in the community and searches for programs to meet those needs. In January 2010, the Committee awarded a $5,000 grant to Columbia Family Center for a financial literacy program. This year, the Committee is looking at expanding the financial literacy program as well as supporting services for adult literacy and work place readiness.
